25 hikers set out to climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) within 24 hours. That meant 23 miles on foot, 462 miles by road and 10,052 feet of elevation, with just four hours for each climb and around 11 hours of travel between the peaks. Only around 40% of participants complete the challenge within 24 hours, so it was a real test of endurance.
The team faced weather warnings, injuries and exhaustion along the way, and the challenge took closer to 28 hours than the 24 they had aimed for. Most of the group reached the summit of all three peaks. On Scafell Pike, mountain rescue advised some of the hikers to turn back before the top because of severe weather. It didn’t take anything away from the achievement, and we’re incredibly proud of everyone who took part. Together, the team raised an incredible £11,905 for The Children’s Society and Maggie’s.
