Key Insurance

Cover for the keys customers now expect to be protected

Key Insurance has become an established add-on product across both motor and home insurance, providing customers with valuable protection when their keys are lost, stolen or broken. As keys have become increasingly sophisticated and expensive to replace, losing or damaging one can result in an unexpected and costly expense. This product provides cover for customers’ keys, offering added reassurance for both home and vehicle keys.

Cover for a Problem That's Only Getting More Expensive

Modern keys aren't the simple, cheap items they used to be, and losing one can mean far more than the cost of a cut and copy. Key Insurance looks after customers if their keys are lost, stolen, or broken, covering the practical costs that come with sorting the problem out.

  • Any Number of Claims

Customers can claim as many times as they need to, up to the limit of their policy.

  • Covers Home and Vehicle Keys

Cover isn't limited to one or the other. Customers are protected whether it's their home keys or their vehicle keys that are lost, stolen, or broken.

Frequently asked questions

Key Insurance FAQs

What does Key Insurance cover?

It provides cover for lost, stolen, or broken keys, and keys locked inside a property or vehicle.

Does this cover both home and vehicle keys?

Yes. One policy covers all home, vehicle and office keys belonging to the insured, so customers with more than one vehicle don’t need a second policy.

Do customers need to keep a physical key fob for cover to apply?

No. Cover doesn’t depend on a key fob or tag being attached to the keys.

How many times can a customer claim?

As many times as needed, up to a total policy limit over the policy period.

Does the policy cover locksmith or garage costs, or just the key itself?

The policy covers costs for replacing the key including any locksmith charges, up to the level of indemnity on the policy.

What happens if a customer is locked out because of a lost or broken key?

Our claims team will arrange for a locksmith to attend and provide assistance to gain entry or provide a replacement key. The policy also provides cover for hire or travel expenses and onward transportation.
